Horizontal carousels are commonly utilized in an integrated workstation known as a “pod” to enhance the speed of picking times. The carousels are supported by software and pick-to-light technology, which allows them to work together to improve productivity.
While the worker picks items from one carousel in the pod, the other carousels are automatically pre-positioned for the subsequent pick. This approach reduces worker downtime and significantly increases throughput. Additionally, horizontal carousels set up in pods provide considerable flexibility. With a simple software modification, the pods can be quickly reorganized to meet seasonal peak order periods.
